Lufkin, Texas: Military recruiters’ vehicles dented, scratched, and damaged

by

This is funny – multiple military recruiters’ cars have been shot at with pellet guns, dented, hit with rocks and scratched over a period of weeks, but recruiters say it’s got nothing to do with what they do for a living. They say the latest act of destruction is an “isolated incident.” Who do they think they’re kidding?

Property destruction and other forms of direct action against military recruiters can be a critical factor in effective counter-recruiting – remember the recruiter commander literally begging anarchists in Kansas to set aside their militant tactics? Though there’s considerable risk involved, this is another area where youth have been leading the resistance against recruiters in their communities.

From the Lufkin Daily News:

Houston-based military spokesmen say a recent rash of vandalism of Lufkin recruiters’ vehicles is an isolated incident.

On Monday, a fourth report of vandalism was made to Lufkin police. The windshield of a U.S. Army recruiter’s vehicle was broken and the hood dented with some type of blunt object in the Lufkin Mall parking lot, a report stated.

“It was probably done by some kids. We don’t view it as an outlash toward the military at all,” said Lt. Kris Brazil, a public spokesman for the U.S. Navy recruiting district in Houston.

A spokesman for the Army recruiting battalion in Houston echoed Brazil’s reasoning.

“It’s probably someone with too much time on their hands, and thought (the car) was a target of opportunity,” said Jay Thompson, a public officer specialist for the Houston Army recruiting battalion.

The reports of vandalism first appeared June 27 after a U.S. Army recruiter’s vehicle was keyed in the Lufkin Mall parking lot, off South Medford Drive, a police report stated.

The following week, on July 3, two recruiters’ cars, one for the U.S. Army and and the other belonging to the Navy, were vandalized. Someone shot a Navy recruiter’s car several times with what appeared to be a high-powered pellet gun, the report stated. It was also scratched several times from thrown rocks, and two hubcaps were missing. A window on the Army recruiter’s car was broken, the report stated.

The vandalism has mostly occurred at night, said Lt. David Young, a Lufkin police spokesman.

“We sure would like to catch them,” he said.

Brazil said he hopes an increase in parking lot patrol of that area by mall security will stop the vandals.

“A security guard paying more attention to that area may stop it,” he said.

Lufkin Mall did not return calls by The Lufkin Daily News Wednesday.

what exactly do you think you are accomplishing here? i’m all for you standing up for what you believe in as long as you have some sort of rational thought that can back it up… however, i fail to see your rationalization in this instance. you don’t support the war, that’s obvious. so why not just go into the political spectrum and try and change the leadership that took us into this war instead of attacking the 100% volunteer military that is fighting it. hillary voted for the war, why are you not attacking her? as a matter of fact there is a slew of democrats that voted for the war…. are you going after them? your rational thought process breaks down when you start attacking the people who are not even responsible for the military action taking place in iraq which you do not agree with. from the beginning of the formation of this great nation the military institutes that you are attacking are the sole reason that you have the right to decent. you are biting the hand that feeds you…. do you not see the irony here? so you don’t agree with the war… ok. i disagree with you, but i’m not going to throw shit, bombs, paint, or anything of the matter at you while you are walking down the street. i’m not going to slit your tires, key your car, and harass you beyond belief to force you to stop saying what you are saying because i disagree with you. those are the acts of a true totalitarian government who wishes to silence the voices of decent to further their ideals as the only ideals one can embrace. you are the ones that are supposed to be open minded and all inclusive, but here you are silencing someone’s voice. again, where is the rational thought process here. we talk about how the iraqis cannot take violence out of their politics, well i say look at yall…. we are a civilized, advanced society. lets all start acting like it…

Thank you josh, I agree completely. Even the name of the website is hypocritical. Recruitment is not a draft. There is no rational thought in these posts and actions because these people have no rational thought.

Isn’t it wonderful to live in a country where our brave fighting men and women lay down there lives so trashy websites like this can blog their smutty opinions. My son is a US Marine and I am DAMN proud he enlisted. He understands that he is defending morons that have no idea what liberty and freedom mean (ie: counterrecruitment.net), but he chose to do so because it is the right and moral road. I own the other hand deplore you commie bastards.

  5. Disgusted Says:

I agree with Mr. Furr, and as an added note, it seems this website promotes property damage and approves of it. I wonder what their stance will be when someone is seriously hurt or killed? Will they write it off as another casualty of Iraq and yell and scream at the top of their lungs about the “unjust war”?

  6. How to Get Six Pack Fast Says:

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected for when I found a link on Furl telling that the info is quite decent. Thanks.
